About Feng Shui

elements The Five Elements

Living in harmony with nature has always been the practical necessity and spiritual desire of man. For modern society, Feng Shui acknowledges that our outer environment is a metaphor for our lives. Thus Feng Shui addresses how our living and working environments influence our life's work, health, finances, reputation and relationships.

Using the tools of Feng Shui to balance the life supporting elements of water, wood, fire, earth and metal in our homes and workspaces, there is the potential to make improvements in every area of our lives. Sacred Currents acknowledges that in reality, there is no 'inner' and 'outer'. The environment affects the body's condition. The environment 'holds' the vibration of those that have lived and worked there.

Treating the physical and subtle body (that noncorporeal aspect of us that surrounds the physical), with color and acoustical sound, both heals the physical body and its surroundings.

Sacred Currents encourages that which is Divine to flourish by creating a flow of blessings throughout one's environment and health in one's life - through the use of art, science and intuition.

Five Element Theory is basic to the understanding of Feng Shui. In actuality the Five Elements ( water, wood, fire, earth, metal ) function as agents of change to stimulate the healthy flow of "Chi" or life force.

It is intentional that in using this web site, which is graphically based of the Five Elements, you experience the dynamics of Feng Shui.

Throughout the site you will learn about the elements and how to apply them. Sacred Currents Feng Shui Home Accessories are based in the Five Elements.

Working with the Elemental Forces, in all their symbolic forms, is a powerful way to promote harmony, health, and prosperity-the desired outcome of good Feng Shui.

Water Water

WATER is represented by the colors dark blue or black, wavy or meandering shapes, the northern direction, winter and associated with the kidneys and bladder in the body. Water is fluid, downward moving, cool and gentle. The virtue associated with water is wisdom.

The 'chi' of Water has two aspects in terms of character: still water and moving or dynamic water. When still water is balanced, intellectual capacity and wisdom, cognitive ability and clear judgement are available. Moving water has to do with career, business and social life as well as cash flow. When you balance moving water in your environment you freely move out into the world with success.

Wood Wood

WOOD is represented by the color green, rectangular shapes (moving both upward and down), family, new beginnings, the eastern direction, spring and the liver and gall bladder. Wood is expansive and creative. The virtue of Wood is human heartedness.

The 'chi' of Wood can go from one who is opinionated, stubborn and inflexible (like bamboo) to one who is easily influenced (like a floating weed). When balanced, the element of Wood (like a mature tree) is represented by one who listens and evaluates before forming a point of view. Wood in balance affords one the ability to easily start new projects and have favorable family relationships.

Fire Fire

FIRE is represented by the color red, pointed shapes, the south, summer and the heart and the small intestines.. Fire in Feng Shui symbolizes one's reputation and recognition. Fire is explosive, consuming, upwardly moving and fast. The virtue of Fire is propriety and courtesy.

The 'chi' of Fire is anger. If one has a high degree of fire they would be easily angered, if low they could be suppressive or internalizing. When balanced one is able to experience anger, yet remain uninjured acting with reasonable behavior. A balance of fire also indicates that one is highly regarded and not subject to slander of any kind.

Earth Earth

EARTH is represented by the colors orange and yellow, square shapes (horizontal movement), relationships (with yourself and with others), the spleen and stomach. The element Earth is not associated with one of the four seasons yet it holds 3 positions in Feng Shui. The virtue of Earth is credibility, trust and faithfulness.

The chi of Earth is sacrifice. When the chi of Earth is too influential one would sacrifice themselves for others, possibly burning up in the process. When the chi of Earth is weak or low, one would tend to be quite selfish, thinking only of oneself. Earth is balanced in someone when they care both for themselves and others. Healthy relationships with oneself and others, are the hallmark of a balanced earth element.

Metal Metal

METAL is represented by the color white, round shapes, the west, autumn and the lung and large intestines. Joy, creativity, children and things coming to fruition are also associated with metal. Metal in it's negative aspect can be contracting, cold, stagnant and heavy. The virtue of Metal is righteousness.

The chi of Metal is virtue itself. Speaking up for what is just, right and ethical is Metal in balance. Metal displays itself in excess as demonstrative, self-righteousness. While a very low amount of Metal chi appears shy, withdrawn or having a 'choked' quality. When metal is in balanced one has the ability to complete things in a timely fashion allowing oneself to enjoy the fruits of their efforts. Balanced metal also indicates that one can have helpful people (benefactors) in their life and can manifest more when needed.
